The prebrief highlighting tomorrow's trip to Prince George. We also enjoyed a potluck dinner that was as usual, terrific.

Frank and Peggy take time to pose for a special picture.

A waypoint to Prince George was this campground, Ft Telkwa RV. Pretty nice overlooking a river and just south of Smithers, BC. We stayed here a couple of nights to rest and relax before continuing on to Prince George. Here Frank prepares a fire for the evening. Very nice even though we did get rained on a little.

Along the same stretch of road just a couple miles further, we were able to revisit Bear Glacier. This time with a little more sun and from a different angle.

8/14/05. This morning we packed up and continued our southerly track towards Prince George, BC. Along the way we were blessed with some more outstanding views. This water fall was fantastic pouring down from a great height.

And as we were to all find out, the answer to the age old question is - yes.

Also watching were Roger and Cathy. A pretty nice shot with the background.

8/13/05. Watching the bears with us were a number of our fellow caravaners. Here Al and Donna take a moment to get caught by the camera.

Once he found one to his liking, he settled in for a nice dinner, seemingly oblivious to all the spectators looking on. He was at this fish for quite a while.

Living up to the reputation of the place, a huge grizzly appeared downstream come to feast on the overabundance of salmon in the stream.

8/13/05. Following dinner a bunch of us headed off to the bear ramp. A platform built over a nearby river where people can watch the bears sup on salmon without danger to either the bears or the people. Prior to going out to the ramp, a few hints as how to not get mauled by a bear.

Next, Christa and I assume our place with the bear. Kinda looks like he smells something afoul, and that is not a guilty look on my face.

Afterwards, a little horseplay with the stuffed bear in the corner, here attacking Ted and Jan. They look concerned don't they.

8/13/05. Dinner at Sealaska Inn. Tonight we were treated to a local favorite, baked halibut. The Sealaska Inn is run by an ex-marine, instantly winning favor with our illustrious leader Jerry (himself an ole leather neck). We had a deliscious meal of the halibut and of course an evening of great company again.

8/13/05. Today we got up, had a great breakfast at the Wildflower Cafe just down from Camp Run-A-Muck, and loaded up into the van to go check out Salmon Glacier. Thrilling. The other glaciers we had seen were pretty awesome, but, on the boat, we only saw the face of the glaciers. This time we were able to drive on top of the adjacent mountain (no I didn't get the name of the mountain) and look down the throat of one of these beauties. Be mindful that this is only one angle and that we had traveled for about 10 miles to get to this point. The only downer was that the flies up here eat you as you get out of the vehicle. I'm not kidding, I had to toss abvout 5 other photos because everyone had flies on the lens in the shot. And they bite. Hard.

After the wash we proceeded to our campground - Camp Run-A-Muck, I love it. A nice little park, but without sewer. But they are located just down the road from the bear viewing platform at the Tongass State Park. Christa and Mom went as soon as we were hooked up, I stayed behind because I was bushed. Too bad, as they saw some real action with four bears fishing and fighting over the best ground. They came back really excited, this was one of the things that Christa wanted to see while we were up here and she got an eyefull.

8/12/05. We made it to Hyder, AK, around 3 o'clock and then gotin line to have our rig washed. While waiting (because everyone else had pretty much the same idea) we had a chance to walk around the town, buy some souveniers, eat some dinner, take a long nap, chat with some friends and in general putz around. About 7:30 PM (PST) our turn arrived. The washers did a great job and were located across from the Seaalaska Inn. I recommend them highly, good price, too. $40 Canadian for my 37 footer and the toad.

8/12/05. Last night we stayed at Lake Tatogga RV Resort. In keeping with not wanting to say bad things about places, I won't say much here. Suffice to say that if you have a big rig you may want to look a little harder for a place to stay (or spend the night on the road, it'll be about the same and will save you a couple of bucks. Once you are past the Meziadin Junction and heading south you will truly experience some outstanding views. Here you can see Bear Glacier coming down to this small lake and then running at high speed down the mountain.

8/11/05. Leaving North Beaver Post, we continue the journey to Hyder, AK, hopefully for some good bear viewing. As usual, while traveling down the many roads of Alaska and Canada, there are always a bounty of scenic shots to take. Ted (pictured) and I could not resist pulling over for this beautiful streamside photo op. The water was crystal clear and ice cold. Yep, I waded out into itand this pic was taken from out in the middle (sort of). Though this is a nice shot along the Cassier Hwy, do not let it fool you. This road was one of the most grueling we had undertaken. A bunch of repairs will be needed when we get back to the states.

HGere is Christa and I at the halfway point in the hike. We ended at a very nice little lake that Linda (the co-owner) likes to hunt moose at).
