Visiting Cap Pele' and Shediac, NB

As stated in the previous post we are sailing mono for the time being with Ted and Jan diverting to Halifax, NS. As for us, we have found ourselves in the little fishing town of Cap Pele', NB, at the Sandy Beach Camping Resort. We were here 7-10 Sep. We are camped right on the beach, but there is a huge dune we have to cross to get to the water. Still, this would seem to be a great place acknowledged by the locals for it's superb access to the warm waters (75 deg) and there are still plenty coming here to swim.

According to local info, Cap Pele' has the largest herring and sardine fishing fleet in the world with largest number of smokehouses for these delicacies. I have seen a lot of the fisheries and the boats, no doubt about that, but one expect them to be prominent on the local menus, but that is not the case.

Above: Christa, lucy and myself. To the right is my Mom. And below is me testing the claims of the lobster capitol of the world.

The big draw for us is Shediac down the road about 17 miles west of here. Indeed, visiting the visitor center, we saw the biggest lobster I ever saw. It tried to eat me. Our timing, as usual, hung us again as we arrived here at the same time as the annual motorbike festival. Think of a miniature Sturgis, bikes everywhere. Local police had the downtown area roped off and detouring auto traffic. We opted to come back the next day.

The next day, we returned to Shediac and had a look around. This is a small town where fishing is the way of life.

The most enjoyable event was when Christa and I took a stroll on the beach at sunset; here are a few of the shots.

As usual, you can count on me to locate the good eatery. Just down the road from us is one of the main fishing docks and located there is a simple little diner that sells some terrific seafood. Nothing fancy, just the real deal. I had some scallops and they were fantastic. Mom and Christa enjoyed the lobster rolls. Very nice.

Oh, by the way, tonight we enjoyed the last 3 lobsters we had of the bunch we bought in PEI. Scrumptious, check it out.

Tomorrow we head out to rejoin Ted and Jan in the ton of Monckton. A short drive for us, but they will have a full day of it. I am thrilled with this post as this catches me up on our travels. See you down the road as we start to head back to the states.
