Seeing Our Country

7/20/05. Hitting the road heading for Anchorage, AK, we were pretty bummed at not being able to see Mt McKinley on the park tour, but the road offers many remedies to bummed outness. As we proceeded south along the parks highway we were able to finally get a glimpse of the great one. A testament to ever changing weather conditions around this mountain was the fact that when we rounded a mountain corner and caught our first eyeful of McKinley, it was perfectly clear. By the time I was able to get pulled over, clouds had already begun to cover the top. A little side note is that in my excitement to get a picture of McKinley, I forgot to set the break (or even take the rig out of gear) and we started to roll forward. The bad thing was that Sid's rig was in front of me (along with his tow, a Jeep Grand Cherokee). I jumped on the break and was ableto ward off catastrophe, however, Christa had already got up and was getting some snacks down from the overhead when I engaged the break. I was not a popular fellow.
